Mom Locked Baby Girl In Car With A Note Saying She’s Busy Shopping.
A mother has provoked anger in New Zealand by leaving her newborn baby alone in a locked vehicle outside a supermarket with a note explaining that she had gone shopping.
A man couldn’t believe it when he and his wife parked next to a car. Inside, there was a baby girl asleep in the front seat of the car, with a note left on her lap.
“We waited there for a little bit, wondering if the mum was just going to be two seconds and come back,” the man from New Zealand told the Mirror. “And my wife said, ‘I’m not going in without someone being here with the baby.’”
The note read: My mum is doing the shopping, call her if I need anything. The mother’s cell phone number was written underneath.
The couple and a few others called the cell phone number and confronted the mother. However, the image quickly went viral to a polarizing response.
Some empathized with a busy mother trying to make do, while others felt it was irresponsible.
Police responded to the situation when they became aware of it, but no one formally pressed charges so the mother went away only with a firm talking to from the other shoppers.
“We don’t know who the people are, we don’t know the phone number- we don’t know where to start. We would launch an investigation if we could but at this stage no one’s come forward,” said a spokesperson for the New Zealand police.
